iSMARTi would like to thank Dr. Shih-Huang Chen, Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at National Central University, Taiwan, for delivering the webinar “Innovations for Sustainable Pavements: A Vision into the Future.”
The webinar provided an insightful look at the future of pavement engineering and the role of innovation in developing more sustainable, efficient, and high-performing transportation infrastructure. Dr. Chen highlighted the potential of new technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud-based solutions, to support the advancement of pavement engineering and infrastructure management.
The presentation also emphasized the importance of balancing economic considerations and pavement performance when implementing innovative solutions. Examples of emerging technologies already being applied by local governments and highway organizations in Japan, as well as internationally, demonstrated the growing potential for solutions that combine lower cost, higher efficiency, and broader international applicability.
